Aurora Character Generator
A downloadable generator for Windows and Linux
Follow us to get informed when we upload an update and add more assets!
With this tool you can generate rpg like characters for the use with rpg maker or any other game engine. Choose between a variety of different options for:
- Body parts (including different body types and even non human parts)
- Hair styles (including beards)
- Clothing (multiple layers to mix and match)
- Accessories (including weapons, jewellery, etc..)
You can modify the Colors for every option. This results in a huge amount of different combinations. Need some inspiration? Press the Randomize Button a few times and see what crazy results you get. You can instantly see the resulting character in an animated preview. Once you are happy with your character, you can export the *.png file. The file includes a 4 frame animation for each of the 4 directions.
The artwork was created by Sevarihk (itch, website). So if you want to support this project, support them (and tell them to create more assets for this generator). Maybe you are missing something in particular? Let us know!
The exported *.png files are licensed under cc-by-4.0 (provide credit to Sevarihk). More info about that is displayed in the software.
You can now add your own assets by placing them in the external assets folder: 'external_assets/<type of asset>/<your asset>.png'
Warning: This is not fully tested yet and might crash the generator or cause glitches if the assets you add are not in a compatible layout.

Amazing!
Sorry, but this was released in May 2021 and named after the artist that created the assets: https://aurora-sprites.wixsite.com/main/tiles?lang=en. Also I think there is yet another character generator with a similar name…
Does this have just walk animations or are there attack animations?
Sorry, only walk and idle animations. These assets where created for rpg maker style games.
the lamia preset is so good, it is a good reference to me. Thank you so much!
This is so good, isn't a portrait generator for those characters? so I can do portraits that looks like the characters :)
I ko-fi them XD
sadly no, but maybe you can use some other portrait generator together with this tool.
Can you make version for Raspberry Pi( aarch64) and add some attack patterns ?
Rasp runs on Linux already
NICE, 5 STARS
can i enter assets such as clothes and others? i just want to use the animation only
Sorry for the late response. I am kinda busy with my day job. Currently, if you want to add your own assets to the generator, you have to send them to me and I will add them for everyone to use. An alternative is to add your assets and make your modifications after the export of the base character. I am not sure what you mean by ‘using the animation only’. You can use all assets and animations under the license stated in the software. Have a great day!
I like it so far, for the animal pieces I like the concept but there's a cat-only option and no tail option for human hybrids, and I also kinda wish it had some attack/death animations and such for each direction. That actually would be cool to do. Or even add some idle animations with it as well just in case if anyone would like to add idle animations into their game, RPG maker or not.
That's my suggestion so far but I'll be looking more into this software when it gets more updates over time and I may use this for a future game.
Thank you for your feedback.
It is still planed to add more animal pieces to this generator in the future. For my part, I just add whatever Sevarihk provides me and I am thankful for their work. However, they have other projects they work on as well. Also my understanding is, that they will focus on providing all clothing options for all body types first.
I am always open for artists that want to contribute assets in any way…
Adding more animations like idle/death/attack results in a multiplication of the needed work for any asset. So it’s not likely to happen. But I think using the the walking animation frames as a starting point a good pixel artist can create additional animations for you once your project passes the prototype stage.
A video I made for this generator ^_^
Hey AmalgamAsh, thank you for reviewing our Generator! I appreciate your tutorial for getting these to work in RPG maker.
I will try to take your suggestions into account for the next release. Having a folder to dump art is not implemented for 2 reasons:
Meanwhile everyone is welcome to send in their assets if they want them included. If you need templates, get in contact.
Also there is still an update planed that adds more assets (also more non-human body parts). But I can’t tell when I will receive them from Sevarihk.
if you can provide a template / link to one, I'll advertise it for you straight away so awareness can be made!!
That would be awesome! I plan to release a mini update to address some of the fast to fix suggestions and I will release a template bundle with instructions at the same time. However I am too busy the rest of this Month, so expect that for the start of October.
Hey AmalgamAsh, I just released the update and the template pack. Let me know what you think. I am happy about any feedback!
Cheers
oh NICE!!!!
I am hyped for this!
I will be getting into it this weekend!
Hey, just a quick update: You can now add your own assets by just placing them in the right folder. But this feature is not fully tested yet.
Saw this on AmalgamAsh YouTube channel. Looks awesome !
Amazing, thanks for share!
This could be useful for a lot of people! Keep up the goodwork!!
